What the human studies actually show about muscle gain, fat loss, and the cost of a popular drug

Hola from South Padre Island, where your favorite nerd has been neck-deep in research on one of bodybuilding's most infamous chemical cocktails.

Clenbuterol.

Ahhhh yes. The legendary fat-burning, muscle-building drug that promises to turn your body into a shredded Greek statue while your mitochondria throw a rave.

At least that's what the internet GooRoos would have you believe.

But are the claims of this non-FDA approved drug true?

I went digging through the actual human research, including two newer studies, and holy ballz, Batman.

Some of the claims actually have some legit evidence....

...others fall apart faster than a cheap lawn chair under a 400 lb powerlifter.

And one finding should make every meathead who cares about their cardiovascular system extremely nervous.

To help you out, I put together a brand-new, 14-page Clenbuterol Evidence Brief PDF.

It's FREE, linked below, and loaded with 12 scientific references including two brand new hooooooman research studies that virtually nobody is talking about, nor have read.

Here's some of the scientific carnage waiting inside:

  • Why a drug that increases fat oxidation by 39% and resting energy expenditure by roughly 21% somehow FAILED to produce significantly more fat loss in the available human trials. Wait... WTF?
  • The surprising muscle-building effect researchers actually documented in humans. Turns out some of the gym-bro mythology has legitimate scientific legs. But there's a catch nobody wants to discuss.
  • How just 2 week of Clenbuterol hammered one critical measure of cardiovascular fitness by 7%. If you lift, run, row, or plan on keeping your heart in working order, you'll want to see this.
  • A nasty little phenomenon involving beta-2 adrenergic receptors that may throw a giant molecular wrench into the whole idea of endlessly riding the Clen train.
  • What happened when researchers took people OFF the drug, let them detrain, and then had them start lifting again. The results throw a serious monkey wrench into the popular muscle-memory narrative.
  • Why a compound used medically in some countries has never received FDA approval for human use in the United States. And what the cardiac case reports actually tell us (without the usual internet fearmongering).
  • My simple 3-question test for evaluating almost ANY performance-enhancing compound before you get hypnotized by a shiny mechanistic pathway and some dude with 22-inch arms.

No charge and no hidden peptide BroZ company paying me to say nice things. Hell no!

Just the human research, the physiology, the ugly tradeoffs, and enough references to keep your favorite pub-med-obsessed meathead occupied for a while.

Download it, read it, and use the 3-question framework the next time someone tries selling you a biochemical shortcut to GainZ City.

And yes, the brief is educational. I'm not recommending Clen use. It's not FDA-approved for humans in the US and it is not recommended. None of this is medical advice, just data based on research.

Much love, heavy lifts, and evidence over internet BS,

Dr. Mike

PS - My favorite finding is the fat-loss paradox. The cellular machinery says one thing, but the actual human body-composition results say something else.

PPS - I would love any and all feedback on this one!

In this episode of the Flex Diet Podcast, I sit down with sport scientist and performance coach Jonah Rosner, founder of Marathon Science. Does everyone really need two to three hours of Zone 2 each week? Sport scientist Jonah Rosner joins Dr. Mike T Nelson to explore when higher-intensity work makes sense, how to separate cardiovascular stress from tissue stress, and what heat training and blood flow restriction may add to an endurance plan. We also dig into sprint progression, heat...

Hola from South Padre, where Halloween has come and gone, but the leftover candy is still lurking around like a zombie that refuses to die and it is an excuse to subject you to my favorite video of the guys from GWAR going out to get candy HERE. And according to the nutrition police, eating any of that candy after 7 PM means your body will immediately ship those calories straight to your belly fat. Booooo! Apparently, your metabolism turns into a pumpkin at night, and anything you eat after...

Hola from South Padre Island and Happy Halloween, where your favorite nerd is attempting to get his sleep schedule back on track after four days of driving, questionable amounts of caffeine, and enough windshield time to qualify as a professional trucker. And just as I'm getting back into a routine, the government decides to screw with the clocks again. Fantastic. This Sunday, November 1, we fall back one hour. Technically, you gain an extra hour of sleep, which sounds great, right? Until...
