It is that time of the year very soon when Jodie and I will once again be making our pilgrimage to the sun-drenched shores of South Padre, TX, for a blend of work and the exhilarating rush of kiteboarding. It's a ritual that never fails to inject our lives with an unmatched zest. Kiteboarding, much like life itself, has hammered home a pivotal lesson: not everything unfolds according to plan. This truth, as universal as gravity, holds sway not just over our hobbies but seeps into the very fabric of our daily lives and the way we approach training. Recall 3 years ago in Fall, a classic case of expectations meeting the harsh reality. Picture this: I arrive at the Flats, kite in tow, heart set on conquering the winds. With my 17M kite prepped and the tide laughably low, I ventured forth, wading through shallow waters with anticipation bubbling within. Yet, as fate would have it, my excitement was short-lived. A sudden loss of power, and my kite—my trusty steed—succumbed to the air's embrace like a deflated dream. The culprit? A treacherous slow leak, transforming my kite into a cumbersome, lifeless behemoth. Nature: 1, Kiteboarder: 0. Crap. It's a scenario all too familiar, a stark reminder of life's penchant for the unpredictable. As Steve Pressfield aptly puts it, "The resistance is waiting for you." The real test is how we adapt and how prepared we are when unforeseen storms hit. This brings me to an anecdote from my engineering days, a lesson in the delicate dance between strength and flexibility. Ceramics, for all their hardness, fail spectacularly under pressure. Carbon fiber, though revolutionary, demands respect for its unique properties, lest it shatters catastrophically. The parallel in fitness is clear: strength is invaluable, but without mobility, it's incomplete. Nutrition follows suit; adaptability is key when faced with less-than-ideal choices. Cue the Flex Diet Cert, a testament to the power of nutritional agility. Yet, the quest for adaptability doesn't end there. The Phys Flex Cert is born out of the desire to push boundaries further to forge resilience that not only withstand but thrives under pressure. To a future unbounded by the rigid, where the flexible reigns supreme, Much love, P.S. - Tonight, the doors to the Phys Flex Cert close at midnight PST, and won't open again until Oct 2025. I have payment options to ease your journey at the end of the page, plus the 6-part Red Light Series as a bonus when you enroll. PPS - In the words of Matt Vincent: "A STRONGER life is a better one. Seek out resistance and continue to grow as a more resilient human." _____________________ Mike T Nelson CISSN, CSCS, MSME, PhD Mike T Nelson is a PhD and not a physician or registered dietitian. It’s that time again. Bags packed to the ceiling. The smell of coffee, neoprene, and jet fuel lingering in the air. Black Sunshine (our beloved battle-wagon GX 460) is full with multiple cases of Tecton Ketone Esters, 5 kiteboards, 7 kites, 3 foils, 1 surfboard, wetsuits, and protein powder canisters the size of toddlers. Destination? South Padre, Texas. Mission? Launch myself 30 feet into the sky like a caffeinated flying squirrel and beat my kiteboarding PR. Full send. No brakes. But...
