Rapid Fire Dispatch from the Frozen Wastelands: Minnesota, Metal, Metabolism, and Mayhem

Greetings from the wind-blasted heartland of Minnesota, where the snow bites your face and the wind whispers ancient curses in your ears.

The wonderful wifey and I have just escaped the neon claws of Sin City—Las Vegas, the land of tequila-fueled delusions, 3 a.m. slot machine despair, and... me nerding out over physiology of course.

The flying germ tube delivered us back home mostly intact. I now sit here, moments from devouring a Chipotle double chicken bowl like a hyena on a protein bender, just to whisper one last sweet, spicy newsletter into your inbox before collapsing into a coma of deep REM dreams and aerobic adaptations.

Phys Flex Cert Is Now Closed—You Maniacs Did It

Huge thanks to all the glorious psychos who enrolled in the Phys Flex Certification.

You're now on the express train to becoming harder to kill, more robust, and metabolically untouchable. I am fully stoked to take this ride with you.

You’ve locked in access to a wild and wonderful world of homeostatic chaos—where heat, cold, breath, blood sugar, and even your lizard brain become tools for growth.

Upcoming Podcast: Resilience or Die

And speaking of being harder to kill, I’ve got a brand-new podcast dropping tomorrow, covering all things resilience. It’s packed with practical takeaways, real science, and absolutely zero fluff featuring an epic guest. It’ll hit Spotify, Apple, and my site—stay tuned for that ear candy.

Vegas Recap: Iron, Friends, and Ear-Ripping Riffs

Vegas started classy—with me attending at the Parker University seminar—and descended rapidly into glorious chaos.

Between talks, expos, and dodging overpriced water, I managed to hang with:

  • Dr. Andy Galpin (his mitochondria lift heavier than most people)
  • Dan Garner (my biomarker blood brother from Rapid Health)
  • Dr. Tommy Wood (my go-to blood whisperer)
  • Dr. Kelly Starrett (who I will convince to try foilboarding)
  • Joel from Seattle (came in hot and didn’t stop)
  • Mike Mahler after the Down and Danzig show (yes, it was LOUD)

The vibe? Pure intellectual anarchy mixed with heavy riffs and heavier ideas.

Accidental Fasting & the Protein Chronicles

Food was an afterthought most days—until dinner. And strangely, I didn’t feel like death. Why?

Fasted cardio. Lots of it. My fat metabolism is humming, and it helped stave off the usual hangry demon that lives in my spleen.

Post-cardio, I hammered 75 grams of protein some mornings like a man possessed. Yes, your body can use it. No, the protein police won’t come for you.

Vegas breakfast options were bleak, so I traveled with my trusty tub of Driven Nutrition protein powder. Easy. Efficient. Delicious.

Rapid Fire: Quick & Dirty Nutrition Tips

  • 50g protein and a banana > nothing
  • Protein-only meals are valid when the schedule goes full ape
  • “Better” is the goal—not perfect
  • More muscle. Less misery. Stack wins.

Much love!

Dr Mike

It’s that time again. Bags packed to the ceiling. The smell of coffee, neoprene, and jet fuel lingering in the air. Black Sunshine (our beloved battle-wagon GX 460) is full with multiple cases of Tecton Ketone Esters, 5 kiteboards, 7 kites, 3 foils, 1 surfboard, wetsuits, and protein powder canisters the size of toddlers. Destination? South Padre, Texas. Mission? Launch myself 30 feet into the sky like a caffeinated flying squirrel and beat my kiteboarding PR. Full send. No brakes. But...

Post-NSCA Debrief: Danzig, Dark Beer & Deep Sleep Massive shoutout to Dr. Adam Feit, Matt Hyde, and the whole NSCA crew for throwing down an absolutely killer clinic this weekend. Top-tier event. A room full of high-octane brains, biceps, and caffeine—just how I like it. Huge props to Dr. Brandon Roberts for dropping a savage presentation on the intersection of nutrition, training, and supplements. If your head didn’t explode in the best way during that talk, check your pulse. Might be time...
