Happy Wed! It is a beautiful and hot day here in Minn-a-snow-da. Surprise, it does get quite warm here in the summer. I was sweating doing my cardio this AM already and then jumped into the freezer filled with 44 F water.
Which begs the question, when should you bother with other stressors -like cold and heat?
Cold water immersion is all the rage now, but are the IG influencers all picking up pennies and leaving dollars on the table?
As you know, I think both temperature stressors have their place. Heck, I created an entire certifications based on them - the Physiologic Flexibility Cert; however, the basics will never go out of style. I cover the basics (and some advanced work too) for nutrition and recovery in the Flex Diet Cert which opens again on June 5, 2023.
This brings us to the main topic of today where my buddies Jeb and Dean interview me about when to get fancy and when to just double down on crushing the boring basics.
We also ramble about my Ph.D. process, understanding stats and variability analysis in research, and condensing information for clients.
We then talk about the Physiologic Flexibility Certification I created, as well as some analysis of the calories in/calories out model to get leaner.

We discuss:
Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Your gut is not a magical compost pile with Wi-Fi. Despite what the microbiome prophets and probiotic carnival barkers keep screaming, gut health is not solved by sprinkling fermented fairy dust on your lunch. Training matters. Nutrition matters. Stress matters. Context matters. In this episode of the Flex Diet Podcast, I sit down with Dr. Emily Dow, PhD, RD, to dig into the messy intersection of resistance training, nutrition, vinegar, glucose control, and gut health. The Vinegar Rabbit Hole...
Happy Sunday from MN! June is finally feeling like June — warm days, good energy, and another packed week in the books. The Flex Diet Cert is almost here and the ISSN is just around the corner, so buckle up. Always curious as to what you think, so hit me back. Here's what went down this week: Newsletters: Most Healthcare Is Not About Health: The medical system is built around disease management, not health optimization — and there's a big difference. Here's what actual health looks like. 170%...
The Flex Diet Cert is opening up in about 9 days, but before I have more on that coming up soon, today I want to cover one of the most misunderstood studies / protocol...darn I say ever! The year was 1996. Dr. Izumi Tabata and a collection of research nerds who probably hadn't seen sunlight in weeks published a paper that would spend the next three decades being mangled beyond recognition by every gym chain, fitness app, and Instagram trainer on earth. Tabata, I., Nishimura, K., Kouzaki, M.,...
