Weekly Wrap Up June 29, 2025

Hola from sunny Minnesota, where I've returned from a great time at the ISSN Sport Nutrition Conference in Florida. Another amazing time learning new science and hanging out with super nerdy friends.

Here's what went down this week.

Gym Tune of the Week: Earth Crisis “Breed The Killers

Yesterday was one of those days.

Legs felt like wet spaghetti. CNS fried. Sleep? LOL.

But I knew I had to go to war and get in my long, lower-body day anyway.

So I reached for the one thing that always flips the primal switch: Earth Crisis – Breed the Killers.

If you were ever a metalhead in the late ‘90s, this album was the soundtrack to rebellion and raw power. For me, it was also the first Earth Crisis album I ever heard—and I blasted it relentlessly back when I DJ’ed the Metal Madness show on WMTU.

So I hit play.

Track one hits.
Barbell loaded.

And then this lyric punches through my skull like a war cry:

“Adapt to the harshness or you'll become one with the dust.”

Boom.

That line? That’s not just a cool lyric—it’s a philosophy.

It’s exactly why we train.

Why do we bleed, sweat, and stagger out of the gym like wounded warriors? It’s not just for aesthetics. It’s not just for strength. It’s because life is chaos, and the iron prepares us for it.

Leg day isn’t just punishment—it’s preparation.

So if you’re dragging ass this week, if stress is eating you alive, or if you’ve convinced yourself that "maybe I’ll just skip today"…

Throw on "Breed the Killers."
Warm up.
Rack the weight.
Adapt to the harshness.

Or become dust.

Much love and metallic madness,
Dr. Mike

P.S. Got a favorite training album that never lets you down? Shoot me a reply—I’m always updating the playlist. Bonus points if it makes your soul want to deadlift a truck. hahaha

Hola from the sweat-slicked paradise of sunny Florida, where the only thing hotter than the weather is the brain-melting science flying around here at Day 1 of the ISSN Conference (that’s the International Society of Sports Nutrition, for the uninitiated). Let me tell you—it was epic. Elite nerds everywhere. Wall-to-wall discussions on everything from creatine and cognition to CDP and hypertrophy.
